tuesday tunes

when I come across a song or band that I like, I tend to get obsessed. I'm the type of person that when I hear a snippet of a song either in a commercial or movie, I immediately do a Google search and will stop at nothing to discover & listen to the song in its entirety. so I decided, why not do a weekly (or bi-weekly) post on my blog of these musical gems? I may be late to the party on some of these songs or artists or it may be brand new to both you and me. Either way I dig the music and I hope you will too.

my most recent example? last night I was watching an episode of the hilarious sketch show "Portlandia" that my parents had recorded. as the opening credits came on, so did this song/beat that I fell in love with. with my trusty iPhone in hand I did a Google search and discovered the song was "feel it all around" by washed out. obsessed is an understatement. I promptly downloaded it and have not stopped listening to it ever since. please enjoy the song below.

friends came to visit!

this weekend was a wonderful weeked. two beautiful best friends of mine from NY (michelle and lisa) came down to visit me in DC/VA. our short time together was not nearly enough, but I had a blast showing them around town and was trying to persuade them to come back in the spring when there is warmer weather ;).

dreaming of paris

I came across this video a little while back via Lauren Conrad's website (take a look here) and soon discovered that these "live the language" videos highlighted many cities throughout the world, but I just became so smitten with this Paris one. The colors of the flowers and macaroons, the bustling market she visits, it made me ache to go back to Paris, and Europe in general. One day I will make it back over there! But for now, I can immerse myself in this video and daydream.

simplicity is key

Taking another cue from one of my favorite blogs (which you can check out here) I am going to do a post every now and then of simple things that have been making me happy lately. Because, I think we could all use a reminder every now and then that it's the little things that count.

1) the youtube video and twitter feed called "shit girls say." Both so true and so funny.

2) Mindy Kaling's book - hilarious and refreshing. As my friend Alyssa put it, I want to be friends with her.

3) jewelry, knickknacks, bags and pretty much anything else that may have an elephant with its trunk up on it (I have a slight obsession, not quite sure why.)

4) instagram. As an iPhone newbie I am incessantly taking photos of anything and everything just so I can make it look a whole lot neater, which in turn made me love...

5) stickygram - turn your instagram's into magnets! Very cool, check it out here.

6) hot apple cider & having a warm pug on my lap

7) the twitter feed "90's girls problems" - again hilarious & true & also brings back a lot of childhood memories.

That's all I have for now, stay happy.

xx

a fresh start

Yikes so, the last time I blogged was September 1st?! I must admit that's pretty terrible and I feel sorta guilty for having neglected my blog for so long. But, now that it is January 1st (happy new year!) I, along with nearly every other blogger out there, am going to do a post on my resolutions for this new year. Or goals, hopes, ambitions, whatever you want to call them!

1) Blog more (duh). Even if I just post a photo, or share a quote  I sincerely hope (and am going to try my darndest) to post on here AT LEAST once a week.

2) Read more! I am currently reading Mindy Kaling's hilarious book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and I bought the first book in the Hunger Game series, although everyone keeps telling me how addicting it is so I'm a bit nervous to start it, as I'm sure I will get hooked too.

3) The obvious one that everyone else says: exercise more.

4) Keep up my positive attitude.

5) Keep taking the time to notice the little things in life and live in the moment more.

That's about all I can really think of for now. 2011 was a pretty excellent year for me and it will be hard to top, but here's hoping for the best in 2012, cannot wait to see what it will bring!
